SERDANG, August 1 - Tan Sri Prof. Emeritus Anuwar Ali was appointed as Chairman of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Board of Directors effective from 1st August 2017 to 31st July 2020.
His appointment was approved by the Higher Education Minister in a letter signed by the Director General of Higher Education, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Higher Education, Datin Paduka Ir. Dr. Siti Hamisah Tapsir.
Tan Sri Anuwar replaces the former chairman, Tan Sri Dato' Prof. Emeritus Dr. Syed Jalaluddin Syed Salim whose service tenure expired on 31st July 2017. Tan Sri Syed Jalaluddin has been the Chairman of the UPM Board for nine years since 1st July 2008.
Tan Sri Anuwar is currently the Senior Advisor at Open University Malaysia (OUM), starting from 1st January 2016 after serving as President/Vice-Chancellor at the university for 12 years.
UPM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datin Paduka Dr. Aini Ideris said UPM staff and students welcome the appointment and believe that Tan Sri Anuwar is able to provide the best of service for the excellence of UPM in national and international affairs.
